End of the Year Message

June 10, 2020

It goes without saying, the 2019-2020 school year has been like no other! Nearly three months ago, our lives shifted, and our normal routines halted in a collective effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. Seemingly overnight, we transitioned to being physically apart while maintaining learning for our students and providing essential services to our families.

Dear Torrance USD Families, We hope that as you read this, you and your family conti...

Public safety and the safety of our students, employees, and families continues to be our priority. Torrance Unified has convened a Reopening of School Task Force to develop options and plans for the 2020-2021 school year. While it is our strong belief that students have a better experience when physically in school as they grow - academically, physically, and social-emotionally, we are planning on providing families other options as well.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) announced late last week that the Safer-At-Home order would continue indefinitely, which means, students WILL NOT RETURN to school for this academic year. We hoped this situation would improve and our students could return to their schools; unfortunately this is no longer possible for this school year.

Dear TUSD Families, These past several weeks of education have truly been unpreceden...

A veteran educator who has served as the District’s Deputy Superintendent since 2016, Dr. Tim Stowe will take on the role of Interim Superintendent, effective July 1, 2020. He succeeds Dr. George Mannon, who in December 2019 announced his plans to retire by the end of the current academic year. Dr. Stowe will be the eighth TUSD Superintendent since the District formed in 1947.

With so much fluidity and uncertainty tied to the COVID-19 situation, the District will be closed until further notice. We are monitoring the situation continually based on the latest information provided by governmental agencies. We would like nothing more than to have our students back in school.

Late yesterday (March 31), California State Superintendent Tony Thurmond, sent a letter...

We realize that our schools provide families with many essential resources, including meal service. Beginning on Tuesday March 17 and until our schools are open again, all students are welcome to visit the schools listed below for FREE breakfast and lunch each day.

This morning at 10am, the Superintendent of the Los Angeles County Department of Education directed ALL LA County schools close for students effective Monday, March 16, 2020 until March 27, 2020. We will reassess within this time.

The Torrance Unified School District continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation as it progresses. We received updated information from the Department of Public Health today, March 12th, to share with you.

The District would like to share the most recent update sent to us from the Los Angeles County of Education Superintendent, Debra Duardo. Once again, currently there are no confirmed student or staff cases of COVID-19 in TUSD.
