Juneteenth Holiday - Observed Friday, June 18, 2021

Dear TUSD Families,

Today, President Joe Biden signed legislation establishing a new Federal Holiday commemorating the end of slavery, Juneteenth National Independence Day (June19th).

For this reason, ALL Torrance Unified School District offices and schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday June 18, 2021 in recognition of Juneteenth (since the 19th falls on a Saturday, the proceeding Friday shall be deemed the holiday observed). Regular business hours will resume Monday, June 21.

Juneteenth honors the day that enslaved Black Americans were granted freedom, two years after then-President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous event is an important milestone on our journey to equity and social justice.

I hope everyone celebrates and honors this historic day.

Sincerely,

Tim Stowe, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent
