At Torrance Unified, we recognize that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing education and the workplace, and our students need to be equipped to navigate it. Our District continues to be a proud leader in proactively and intentionally piloting AI to enhance teaching and learning. Through the work of our Torrance Unified AI Committee, made up of educators, administrators, and technology specialists, we are thoughtfully integrating AI in ways that align with instructional goals, ethical standards, and a commitment to equity. Central to this work is our strong emphasis on digital and AI literacy, ensuring that students understand how to responsibly, safely, and proactively explore and use this emerging technology as part of the learning experience.

Shaping the Approach for the County:

Our District’s AI accomplishments are gaining attention for the ways we support student learning and empower educators. In 2024, the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) released a comprehensive guide to empower TK-12 school districts to navigate AI Implementation in education, addressing the practical needs of educators and students while remaining aligned with best practices for ethical AI Development. The resource was created by a specialized 40-member AI Task Force, which included one of our own Torrance Unified EdTech team members, contributing valuable insights and expertise to the project.
