District Approved AI Tools
SchoolAI
Torrance Unified School District is continuing the second year of the AI Exploration Program to pilot SchoolAI as an educational tool used by a cohort of K-12 teachers and students during the 2025-2026 school year. SchoolAI’s Terms of Service allow for students under the age of 13 to utilize AI. TUSD has also signed a Data Privacy Agreement with SchoolAI. For security reasons, students can only access SchoolAI when teachers assign a chat to their Schoology course. This allows teachers to monitor student interactions with AI and access entire chats.
Google's Gemini
Torrance Unified School District now supports Google Gemini as an approved AI tool for K–12 student use. Gemini is Google’s generative AI assistant, designed to help students think critically, explore ideas, and enhance learning across all subject areas. Students can access Gemini directly through any of their Schoology courses, where teachers can guide and monitor use within a secure and educational context. All student use of Gemini must align with TUSD’s Student AI Use Guidelines, which emphasize digital citizenship, honesty, and responsibility. By engaging with Gemini and utilizing it as a thought partner, students practice using AI as a tool for inquiry, creativity, and academic integrity in their learning journey.
Google's NotebookLM
Google's NotebookLM is now available districtwide as a creative and research tool for TUSD students in grades K–12. NotebookLM allows students to upload class materials, notes, and resources, then use AI to generate summaries, study guides, and insights tailored to their learning. All use of NotebookLM must follow TUSD’s Student AI Use Guidelines, emphasizing digital citizenship, honesty, and responsibility. This helps students engage with AI thoughtfully, using it as a study assistant to organize ideas, deepen understanding, and enhance their academic integrity.
