Semester Honor Roll Recognitions

West High recognizes students each semester with the following recognitions: Honor Roll (3.5-3.9 weighted GPA and citizenship), Principal’s Honor Roll (4.0+ weighted GPA & citizenship), Citizenship (3+ ‘E’s, no ‘U’s and below a 3.5 GPA), and Perfect Attendance (attending school every day, on time, to all periods).

Civics Speech

California Civic Learning Student Showcase and Awards Ceremony

On Saturday, May 7th, our student awardees shared their State Seal of Civic Engagement projects at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda.  They presented in front of dignitaries including our California Secretary of State, Dr. Shirley Weber. Special thanks to Ian Eddy for supporting these students in completing and presenting their projects.  Please be sure to congratulate the following students who earned their seals and presented at this prestigious event:  Arushi Bagchi, Samantha Jiao, Samara Plasencia, Juliana Ramirez Mora, Alyssa Reamer, and Rithul Rengarajan.

Fashion Students

FCCLA 2022 Regional Winners

West High's Advanced Fashion students competed at the Regional Level of FCCLA's STAR Events this weekend held at Torrance High School.  We are proud to say that our students placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place in Fashion Construction.  These girls have been working hard all semester on their looks that included an oral presentation and full presentation board of their process. They are all excited to compete at the state level in April in Riverside.

Christian Pasos Wins an Honorable Mention for the 2021 Water Is Life Student Art Contest

Christian was selected from nearly 450 applicants for this contest sponsored by the West Basin Municipal Water District.

Women in STEM!

Congratulations to Emma Isella and Nadia Goiset (12th), Saumya Swati (11th), Sorina Yang (10th), and Lana Gilligan and Kristen Sayano (9th). Upon Mrs. Chambers’ suggestion, they decided on their own to participate in the "Plant the Moon Challenge" competition. They recently texted Mrs. Chambers during the awards presentation to tell her they won FIRST PLACE in the high school category!  Their project was, "Effects of Gypsum on Cherry Tomato Plant Growth in Adjusted Lunar Regolith Simulant."

Future Business Leaders of America

Congratulations to Donna Burt and our Future Business Leaders of America who participated in the State Competition.  Noel Tekle and Richa Thakre earned 6th Place in Sports Entertainment Management at the State Competition!  Raphael Rebucas ran for State Secretary and although he didn’t win, he had a lot of support.

WHS 2022 Academic Decathlon Competed in Division 1 at California's 2022 State Competition!

Our Academic Decathlon Team did so well at Regionals that they were placed in Division 1 for the State Competition!  That means they were in the top 19 school in California!  We look forward to celebrating their State accomplishments soon!

WHS Science Olympiad "A" Team Earns 10th at Regionals and Qualifies for California's 2022 State Tournament!

WHS Speech and Debate Team Has Qualified for the California State Championship Tournament!

The West High Speech and Debate team competes in the Western Bay Forensics League against State and National level champion teams from elite private and charter schools.  Against this high level of competition, the West High Speech and Debate team earned the most qualifying spots to compete in the California State Championships Tournament.  Congratulations to the team, and best of luck at State!

Congratulations to Donna Burt and her students for their success at the FBLA State Competition.  Student placements were as follows:
  • Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure:  Richa Thakre - composite score 74 - Fourth Place
  • Public Speaking:  Raphael Rebucas - composite score  94.5 - Sixth  Place
  • Raisa (RJ) Edrolin - composite score 39 - 40th place
  • Allison Prehoda (Intro to FBLA) - composite score 51 - 27th place
  • Raphael Rebucas and Richa Thakre have qualified and will be moving on to Nationals!
