FUTURE TERM PERMIT REQUESTS: Complete Permit Applications received up to 15 calendar days before the start of the school year are considered future term requests. Notification of acceptance or denial will be provided as soon as possible, but no later than 14 calendar days after the beginning of instruction for TUSD's school year.

CURRENT YEAR PERMIT REQUESTS: Complete Permit Applications received 15 calendar days before the start of the TUSD school year or anytime there after are considered current year requests. Notification of acceptance or denial will be provided within 30 calendar days from the date the request was received.

3. You will receive an email indicating what documents are required to complete the application process.

Receipt of an approved Release Permit DOES NOT guarantee acceptance by the district you are trying to transfer to.

Students must remain enrolled at their home district or enroll in a private/charter school of your choice until you receive a TUSD Acceptance Permit and complete enrollment.

If you fail to submit any of the required documentation along with your permit application, it will be considered incomplete and WILL NOT be processed.
- Parent/Guardian Photo ID
- TUSD Outgoing Release Permit Application
- Student's most recent report card
- One proof of residencedocument in the parent/guardian's name (please refer to the Change of Address tab for acceptable proofs of residence)
- Documentation to support one of the following reasons for the request:
- Continuing Student - must provide a copy of the student's most recent report card
- Parent Employment Change - must provide a letter or most recent pay stub from parent's employer
- Child Care - must provide a letter or proof of enrollment from the child care provider
- Sibling - must provide a copy of the sibling's most recent report card
- Other - parent must provide written explanation and provide supporting documentation.
Please note: Special programs require proof of acceptance.
TUSD Acceptance Permits for students from another district are not decided on a first come first serve basis. Instead, acceptance is based on, (but not limited to) considerations such as space availability, grades, attendance, and/or behavior.
Families who live outside of the Torrance Unified School District (TUSD) attendance boundaries and would like to attend a TUSD school.

- Within ten calendar days of submitting your application, you will receive an email requesting required documents.
- All required documents must be received within five calendar days of the date of email. You can submit the documents in-person or by replying to the document request email.
Each application is individually reviewed and approval is based on the following:
- Space available
- Grades
- Attendance
- Behavior
- No, you must first submit a TUSD Incoming Inter-District Permit application and be approved before you can enroll your student.
- Your student must remain enrolled in your home district or private/charter school until you are notified of your student’s acceptance by TUSD.
- Notification of acceptance or denial will be provided as soon as possible.
- If we receive your completed permit application to attend the 2023-24 school year between March 1, 2023 and August 9, 2023 you will receive a determination from us within 30 calendar days, or no later than September 6, 2023.
- If we receive your completed permit application on or after August 10, 2023 or anytime thereafter, you will receive notification within 30 calendar days from the date the permit is received.
