Welcome to Magruder!!
For everyone who is new to Magruder, below are answers to some of the frequently asked questions we get.
In addition, we strongly encourage you to take some time and go over all the sections on our website. There is a lot of information for both students and parents. Items such as clubs and sports will be updated for the new school year when that information is available.
YES!!
Thanks to funding provided by the State of California, all students have a nutritious snack and lunch.
We STRONGLY ask that all families take the time to complete the Nutrition Free and Reduced Meals application. You can also find this link by going to our website under “Students & Parent”; click on “Food Services and Menus. Regardless of your income, by completing this form, Magruder get additional funding to our school.
We respectfully request that NO lunches be dropped off for students except in the case of a true emergency.
If student has forgotten their lunch, our Nutrition Program offers lots of different choices for Snack and Lunch at no cost.
Additionally, we simply do not have the staff available to accept lunches brought onto campus. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU PASS ANYTHING OVER THE FENCE TO YOUR STUDENT.
Click here to see our "Recommended School Supply" website page. This page can be found in our "Parents and Students" section.
In additon to our website page, a printed list will be sent in a packet, usually early August. Copies will also be available in the front office once it re-opens for the school year.
All supplies listed are suggestions and students will not be penalized if they do not have the supplies listed.
Yes, we do ask that all students dress-out for P.E. class. The PE Uniform consists of navy shorts and a gray t-shirt and does not need to be purchased through the school.
Click here to see all Information on PE classes and uniform requirement.
Additionally, students must lock up their belongings during PE class. Combination locks are loaned out at the beginning of the year for the PE lockers. Like library books, students are responsible for them and are expected to return locks in the same condition at the end of the school year. There is a replacement cost of $10 if the lock gets damaged or lost.

Registration is very important and takes place in two parts.
Part 1 - Online Forms
The online forms are accessed and submitted throught PowerSchool. This is best done using a browser on a computer or tablet. The PowerSchool phone app will not work for this. These are all the official forms such as emergency infomation, contacts, health information, etc. Every parent must fill out these forms and update them every year. The window for for doing this opens up on PowerSchool August 1st. You will find more instructions on our website in August: this information will also be mailed to you.
Part 2 - On Campus Registration
This year, 2024, our on campus registration event is on Tuesday, August 13th 9am - 2pm. This is also, our school's "Picture Day" time. During this time, class schedules will be given out, pictures taken and ID cards issued, PE clothes and other items will be available, locker assigned and many other things. Thanks to our parent volunteers, registration usually is a quick process: it is important that you and your student be here for this.
We are a “phone-off” campus.
Incoming calls or text messages – even if the phone is on ‘silent’ – represents a disruption to the learning environment. Phones will be confiscated and brought to the office for parent pick up if they are used without permissin.
Exceptions: when given a staff person’s permission, a student may use their cell phone – but PERMISSION IS REQUIRED at all times. If you need to reach your student, call the main office (310) 533-4527, and a message will be given to them.
Also, phones are not allowed inside the gym locker rooms at any time.
Click here to see our Dress Code Policy. We do want to mention, since it is hot when school begins that no clogs or flip flops are allowed due to safety reasons.
The Dress Code is located in our "Policies" section of this website. There are several items listed in our "Policies" section. Please take the time to review these rules and expectations with your student(s) before the first day of school. No Clogs are allowed
Absences
Please let us know right away if your student is going to be absent.
The front page of our website provides an “Attendance” link where you can report your student’s absence: this is our preferred and easiest method of
notification. You can also call the Attendance Office (310) 533-4527 ext. 8891 and leave a message.
Leaving Early
We do ask for advance notice when you need to pull your student out of school early. This allows us time to get the student up to the front office. We cannot pull students out of class after 3pm.
Please check out our Health Office page. It has some useful information on emergencies, medications on campus, immunizations etc.
For additional information, you can contact our Health Services Assistant at (310) 533-4527 ext.8883.
Our volunteers at Magruder are so very important.
While we don’t have many of the volunteer jobs familiar to many coming from elementary school, they are vital to our campus just the same. All volunteers would need to complete the application process which is entirely online - Click here for volunteer signup.
Also, it is highly recommented that you join our PTSA. They often are in need of volunteers for various activities on campus, and off.
Any adult who wishes to come onto campus must pass through our RAPTOR Security Screening device by presenting a government issued identification card. After the first time, you need only give us your name and show ID to be given an on campus permit.
No adult is allowed on campus unless they have an appointment and have gone through Security Screening
All gates are locked once the bell has rung to begin Period 1.
During school hours, everyone must come to the front gate and check in with the office: this includes parents and students.
Never pass anything over the fence or gate to your student for any reason. Bring any items for your student to the front office.
