Torrance Unified School District’s Board of Education Opens Application Process for Six Vacancies on the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee

The Torrance Unified School District’s Board of Education will be appointing six new members to the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee at its regular meeting on April 21, 2025.  The vacancies will need to be filled according to the bylaws. 
 
Individuals who meet the criteria for the member categories listed below, and who are interested in serving on this committee, must submit an application and cover letter by Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
 
Member Categories with Vacancies:
  • Active in a business organization representing the business community located within Torrance USD.
  • Parent/guardian of a child enrolled in Torrance USD.
  • Parent/guardian of a child enrolled in Torrance USD and active in a parent-teacher organization.
  • Member of a homeowners’ association of a housing development located within Torrance USD.
  • Representative at-large.

About Bond Measures Y and Z / T and U:

In November 2008, Torrance voters approved Bond Measures Y and Z. These Bond Measures funded capital improvement projects throughout the District to renovate and modernize all TUSD schools. Measures Y and Z also included the brand new, J.H. Hull Middle School, as well as the reunited Fern Elementary campus, with brand new fourth and fifth grade buildings. 

In November 2014, Torrance voters approved Bond Measures T and U. These measures are funding school safety and technology projects, as well as physical education and recreation projects throughout the District. Measures T and U projects also include a brand new Aquatics Center, middle school gyms, and high school auditoriums.

The Independent Citizens' Oversight Committeex for Measures Y and Z and Measures T and U will meet on an ongoing bases to review bond expenditures.
