Board of Education Opens Application Process for Vacated Position on the Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee
Torrance, CA - At the August 19, 2019 Board of Education meeting, the Board will be appointing one new member for the Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee (ICOC). The Board is currently looking for individuals who meet the qualification for the following position:
- Representative At-Large
As part of the Bond Measures (per Proposition 39), the Board established the creation of the ICOC to ensure bond dollars were spent only on projects specified in the bond projects lists, and not for general operating expenses or teacher salaries. Members of the committee receive and review copies of the annual financial and performance audits with respect to the bond projects as required by state law. Members of the ICOC meet quarterly and can serve up to three, two-year terms (without compensation).
The application deadline is Friday, July 19, 2019 at 5:00 pm. Applications can be dropped off at 2335 Plaza del Amo, Torrance, CA 90509, the Office of the Deputy Superintendent, or can be mailed to the same address.

About Bond Measures Y and Z / T and U:
In November 2008, Torrance voters approved Bond Measures Y and Z. These Bond Measures funded capital improvement projects throughout the District to renovate and modernize all TUSD schools. Measures Y and Z also included the brand new, J.H. Hull Middle School, as well as the reunited Fern Elementary campus, with brand new fourth and fifth grade buildings.
In November 2014, Torrance voters approved Bond Measures T and U. These measures are funding school safety and technology projects, as well as physical education and recreation projects throughout the District. Measures T and U projects also include a brand new Aquatics Center, middle school gyms, and high school auditoriums.
