April 29th District Wide Test of the Emergency Alert System

April 29th District Wide Test of the Emergency Alert System

On the afternoon of April 29, we will be holding a PREPAREDNESS DRILL to test our Torrance Unified Emergency Alert System. As part of this drill, our Communications Department will send a DRILL TEXT followed by a later ALL CLEAR TEXT to every family.

The text will ask you to check tusd.org/alerts, a new website where updates will be posted during an incident/emergency at one or more of our schools.

Who exactly will receive the test text?

Our system will send the test text to the mobile numbers listed as Parent Guardian 1 & 2 in PowerSchool if those numbers are still opted-in to receive our communication messages.

How can I check and update my Emergency Contacts in PowerSchool?

  1. Log into your PowerSchool Parent Portal
  2. Click the TUSD Resources image at the top left
  3. Review and Update Student Contact Information
  4. Please note that changes may take up to 48 hours to process

As a reminder, during the first 20-40 minutes of any emergency incident, our leadership and school staff will be focused on ensuring the safety and security of all our students, so we ask you to do the following:

  • Remain Calm
  • Monitor your email and tusd.org/alerts for updates
  • Limit texting/calling your child so they can focus on our drilled responses
  • Limit calling the school so they can work with emergency responders
  • Do not come to the school to pick up your child until instructed to do so

Thank you for your cooperation and continued partnership to keep our students and schools safe every day!
