Parent Trainings in August

Parent Trainings in August

Dear TUSD Families,

We hope you are all doing well amid the uncertainties of the ongoing global pandemic. We want to take this opportunity to thank our families for rising to the occasion and working alongside us to ensure our students continue to learn during the COVID-19 health crisis.

Back in March, in response to the State and LA County Stay at Home health order, the Board of Education (BOE) passed a resolution closing our campuses for in-class instruction. Unfortunately, the rising cases in the State and County require our schools to remain physically closed until health officials consider them safe to reopen. The State waiver process which would have allowed some in-class instruction is also no longer available to LA County schools. On August, 26, 2020, all students will start the school year online.

With the first day of instruction less than three weeks away, we recognize families are feeling anxious about the upcoming school year. In an effort to better support parents for the start of school, the District will be hosting a series of workshops and trainings covering everything from technical topics to social-emotional support strategies. Please see the attached schedule for training dates and topics. Trainings date and times can also be found on the District website at: https://www.tusd.org/district/calendar/monthly/2020/08

We also realize that at-home learning has created child care challenges for families, especially working parents. We are happy to announce a partnership with the YMCA to help fill this void. Starting Monday, August 10, parents can register for child care which will take place on TUSD school sites. The program will begin on Monday, August 24, and run through Friday, December 18, 2020. The school site locations will be determined based on total registration. Please see the attached flyer for additional details and contact the YMCA directly for any questions or inquiries.

Next week marks the official return to school for our site administrators and staff. On Monday, parents will receive an email with student cohort information (AM/PM, A/B) and a technology checklist in preparation for the new school year. As we get closer to the first day of school, principals will be sharing more detailed information about schedules with families.

Additionally, principals will be hosting virtual information sessions in the coming weeks in order to respond to parent questions and concerns. In the meantime, if you have questions, please feel free to email your child’s principal directly.

Planning and preparing for a non-traditional start to the 2020-2021 school year has been a Herculean task. There is no substitute for in-class instruction, however, we have developed academic structures and supports in order to facilitate a robust at-home learning experience for our students.

Once again, thank you for your continued support, patience, and understanding throughout this process.

Sincerely,
