Message to Families Regarding the Texas School Shooting

Message to Families Regarding the Texas School Shooting

Dear TUSD Families,

By now you may have heard about the tragic school shooting that occurred today at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of Robb Elementary School. Today’s senseless shooting is heartbreaking.

Even though this incident occurred many miles away, children in Torrance will most likely hear and see things related to this tragedy. It is important to reassure them that they are safe and that their security is a priority for everyone, at school and at home. Listen to their fears and be honest with them. Please remind them that they can speak to any of the adults in their lives - their parents, their teachers, or school administrators - at any time.

Here is a valuable resource that provides guidelines and tips on talking to children after an act of violence:

As parents, we are troubled by events like what occurred in Texas. However, days like today also provide us with the opportunity to help our children to understand that, as the adults in their lives, we do everything we can to keep them safe.

If you, your child, or your family need any support, please reach out to your school counselor or principal.

Sincerely,

Tim Stowe, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
