Enrichment & Events

GATE Enrichment (Grades 3-8)

All identified TUSD GATE students grades 3-8 are invited to participate in GATE enrichment sessions. 

  • School Site-based Sessions: 6-7 school site-based sessions (scheduled throughout the year by school site GATE Teacher Leader Team) - logistics and delivery method will be determined by each site.
  • Each session will focus on social-emotional needs of gifted learners through a critical and/or creative thinking activity

School sites will be contacting families with more details regarding site-based enrichment sessions.

GATE Parent Webinar Series

Session #1 - Supporting Your Gifted Learner

Thursday, October 5th (5:30-6:30 PM)

Parents and guardians of identified TUSD Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students in grades 3-8 were invited to join a virtual webinar focused on ways we can work together to support gifted learners both in the classroom and at home.

Session #2 - Enriching Gifted Minds

Monday, November 13, 2023 (5:30-6:30 PM)

This webinar focused on ways we can further enrich gifted minds. Guest speakers also shared details regarding Invention Convention and California State Seal of Civic Engagement - two unique opportunities that build on student interest, encourage innovation, and help develop changemakers and leaders. 

Session #3 - The Whole Gifted Child 

Thursday, December 7, 2023 (5:30-6:30 PM)

This webinar focused on understanding and supporting the social-emotional needs of gifted learners. Guest speakers, Nancy Gutierrez and Christine Barker also shared information and resources available to TUSD families to help meet the needs of the whole gifted child. 

Session #4 - Planning Forward, TUSD Opportunities

Wednesday, February 28, 2024 (5:30-6:30 PM)

Parents and guardians of identified TUSD Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students are invited to join a webinar focused on potential opportunities and pathways available in Torrance Unified. Guest speakers, Dr. Emma Biggs and Mr. Drew Hettinger will share an overview of AP & Honors courses, CTE, Dual Enrollment, and the Early College Program.

 

Newly-Identified TUSD GATE Parent Webinar

Thursday, February 22, 2024 (6:00-7:00 PM)

Parents and guardians of newly-identified TUSD Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students in grades 3-8 were invited to join a virtual webinar focused on ways we can work together to support gifted learners both in the classroom and at home. 

 

TUSD GATE Keynote & Torrance Innovation Festival

The Annual TUSD GATE Conference is shifting location this year and we will be combining forces with other amazing programs and events at the Torrance Innovation Festival on Saturday, March 23, 2024. This format shift is in response to helpful feedback from families requesting access to multiple breakout session topics and in an effort to increase event capacity.

We invite TUSD GATE students and their families to take part in the many opportunities available at the Torrance Innovation Festival on 3/23.

This event is free, but registration for the festival is required. Families may register via form linked here.

Below are a few highlighted opportunities:

  • Origami Session with Robert Lang - TUSD GATE students may submit their name in the form linked here (must be logged into student's eTUSD account to access form) to enter the lottery for a seat in this unique session!
  • Makers Faire - Students may apply to have their own booth & we invite families to come and support our innovative TUSD entrepreneurs
