Reopening Schools and Modified Stay-At-Home Orders

Dear TUSD Families,

I hope you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving break. As you may know, on Monday, December 7, 2020, we will be welcoming our Blended Learning students (TK-K grade) for in-person instruction. First graders in the Blended Learning model will be returning on January 4, 2021. We are following all protocols from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) and the current modified Stay-At-Home Orders that allow schools to continue to provide, and gradually expand in-person instruction. These protocols include limiting students on campus to no more than 25% of the school population.. To read the full LACDPH press release, please click here: Modified Stay-At-Home Orders.

In accordance with the LACDPH guidelines, we have already returned over 1500 students to our campuses daily since September. Additionally, we have had YMCA child care activities at some schools since August. We continue to work in close collaboration with LACDPH, especially with the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in LA County. I would like to thank all of our staff, students, and parents for their collaboration, which has made this happen safely. It is a collective effort on the part of everyone in our school community!

In an effort to provide additional information to staff and parents regarding COVID-19, we are working on a dashboard that will provide information on confirmed positive cases by school site. Please look for this information to be posted on the District website sometime next week.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and our community remains our top priority and I know we will continue to safely expand our on-campus opportunities for students. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school (or anywhere in the community) if anyone in your household has any COVID-19 related symptoms. Together we can ensure our school community is healthy and safe.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support during this time. I wish you and your families all the best in the coming weeks leading up to the holiday season.

Sincerely,

Tim Stowe
Interim Superintendent
