New Interim Superintendent

Tim Stowe Selected to Serve as Torrance USD Interim Superintendent of Schools

A veteran educator who has served as the District’s Deputy Superintendent since 2016, Dr. Tim Stowe will take on the role of Interim Superintendent, effective July 1, 2020. He succeeds Dr. George Mannon, who in December 2019 announced his plans to retire by the end of the current academic year. Dr. Stowe will be the eighth TUSD Superintendent since the District formed in 1947.

“Tim is uniquely qualified to lead TUSD and build on the successes we have achieved over the past several years,” comments TUSD Board President, Terry Ragins. “His energy, excitement, and focus on student success are hallmarks of his work in TUSD. He is a collaborative leader, has built strong relationships throughout the community, and has demonstrated strong financial management - all priorities identified by our community stakeholders.”

The Board is confident that Dr. Stowe is the best choice to lead and guide our District into the future. Having successfully led both the District’s academic and business divisions, Dr. Stowe is the strategic and collaborative problem-solver needed to help the District navigate the current global health emergency and future economic challenges.

“I am honored and excited to have been selected by the Board of Education. I have always appreciated the sense of community that exists in Torrance and believe that together, we will continue to provide experiences where all students can achieve and excel at high levels. I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board of Education, staff, parents, students, and the community to further the success of all students.”

Dr. Stowe has spent his entire professional career advocating for all students by developing a culture of exceptional learning and teaching. He began with the District in 1992 as a teacher at Magruder Middle School and later was promoted to Assistant Principal at Richardson Middle School. Dr. Stowe then went on to serve as the Principal for seven years, first at J.H. Hull Middle School then at West High School. He worked as Senior Director of Secondary Schools for six years and in 2013, was promoted to Chief Academic Officer. Most recently, for the past four years, he has served as the District’s Deputy Superintendent.

Dr. Stowe holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, received a Master of Science in School Counseling and California Administrative Services Credential from the University of La Verne, and a Bachelor of Arts in History, with a minor in Political Science, from the University of Redlands.
