Raptor Visitor/Volunteer Management System

Raptor Visitor/Volunteer Management System

To: TUSD Parent/Guardian/Volunteer
Regarding: New Visitor/Volunteer Management System, Raptor

In a continued effort to strengthen campus safety at all of our schools, Torrance Unified School District (TUSD) will begin implementing the Raptor Visitor/Volunteer Management System over the next few weeks at all of our school sites.

Upon entering any TUSD school, visitors will be asked to present government-issued identification (ID) with a barcode, such as a driver’s license, which can either be scanned or manually entered into the system. If a parent/guardian, for any reason, does not have this type of ID, a school staff member can use alternate forms of ID and manually enter the visitor’s information into the Raptor system.

For improved safety, Raptor will allow us to better screen all of our visitors on campus. The system checks to ensure that registered sex offenders are not entering our school campuses without our knowledge.

For those of you who generously volunteer your time on our campuses, TUSD will continue to adhere to its Volunteer Policy (to view, please visit our website at www.tusd.org). TUSD school volunteers will receive a Raptor badge each time they are on campus.

Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit. A visitor’s badge is not necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off or pick up items in the front office.

We recognize that privacy and confidentiality are important to our visitors, which is why we want to emphasize that the Raptor system only checks the visitor’s name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. The registered sex offender database is the only official database checked by Raptor. No other data from the identification card is gathered and recorded. Information is not shared with any outside agency.

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority, and the Raptor system allows us to quickly identify visitors that may present a danger to our students.

Thank you in advance for your support in helping us enhance our school safety protocols in TUSD. Together we can ensure our students and staff are safe. Please contact your school principal if you have questions about our new safety system.
