The City of Torrance Community Services Department is conducting an Art Mural Contest for all high school students who attend Torrance Unified High Schools. This contest is soliciting a conceptual idea for a new mural to be painted on the West Wall of the Torrance Benstead Plunge. This will replace the existing Mural that has deteriorated over the last 17 years. Artists will take the winning concept and use it to create and paint a new mural on the wall.
This concept contest is open to all artists working in two dimensions in all traditional art media (ex. oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratchboard, markers, metal point; and two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well). No digital art, photography, or three-dimensional art such as installation art or sculpture will be allowed. All works must be original. “Original” means that the work must be from the hand of a single artist; pieces that originate from a workshop or a class under the direction of a teacher are not eligible.
