PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Hello, Madrona Families.

I want to thank Madrona Principal Jeffrey Nielson for his service, leadership, dedication, and great care for the Madrona School community over the last six years. We wish Mr. Nielson much success! He will make a positive impact with his promotion to district leadership.

My name is Dr. Sue Key, and I am honored to serve as your new Principal and join in the “Wildcats" spirit of our students, families, and staff, which makes Madrona Middle School an extraordinary school in Central Torrance. Being here on campus today, I was overjoyed with the warm welcome from students, families, and staff. I look forward to getting to know our wonderful students over the next few months!

Before coming to Madrona, I served as Interim Principal of Magruder Middle School for seven months, and an Assistant Principal at North High School for six years. Also, I served as our district’s Induction Program Coordinator, Career Pathways/Project Lead the Way Coordinator, and a high school teacher. I worked with many Madrona staff members in various capacities during my career in Torrance Unified School District and have seen firsthand how outstanding staff and programs are at our school.

During my years in education, I have had the pleasure of celebrating the growth and achievement of middle school students preparing for their transition to high school and high school students preparing for college or a career. I am dedicated to promoting programs that connect and engage our students in their learning whether through academic subjects, middle school athletics, innovative STEM classes, or enriching elective and arts programs.

Above all, I am committed to learning what makes our school community thrive. I look forward to partnering with you to ensure we continue cultivating a welcoming and connected community.

I am filled with joy and anticipation for a solid finish to the 2023-24 school year and our students' continued social-emotional growth and academic success in their preparation for high school and beyond.
