PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi
WELCOME TO CALLE MAYOR MIDDLE SCHOOL, we are excited that it is our "65th" Birthday! We will be offering some different events this year to celebrate our 65th year of being the best middle school in Torrance.

As the Principal of Calle Mayor Middle School, it is my sincere pleasure and honor to be a member of this great school community. I continue to work towards academic and cultural excellence that will result in a collegial partnership between the school, staff and parents.  I am truly honored to be appointed to this position and am always excited about working with the dedicated and amazing staff to provide the best possible education program for our students.

Middle School is a time of change. The development of a child academically and socially is greater than at the elementary school level. The campus is larger, more students, many different teachers throughout the day and a dedicated physical education class. A new school year is always an exciting time for all. It presents opportunities for various beginnings – new classes, new faces, new expectations, a busier schedule, and more challenges. It is my goal to minimize this transition for both parents and students and create an exciting place to learn.

We are beginning another exciting school year at Calle Mayor and we have been in a transformation, academically and physically, over the last few years on our campus. Academically, we are excited about continuing and implementing District Signature Teaching Practices and our Professional Learning Communities. We are also excited to have been selected in 2022 as a California Pivotal Practice School, piggybacking on our 2021 California Distinguished School Award, which we were one of 31 schools identified in Los Angeles County for this special award. We are also proud of our 2018 Gold Ribbon School Award for our student clubs. I understand that last few years have been a challenge and know that change can present many challenges but together we can always overcome them all. Together we are stronger!

My greatest initiative is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a safe learning environment which motivates and prepares our students to meet any academic challenges that are presented in front of them. Together we are committed to the academic, social and physical development of our students and this would not be possible without the support and commitment of staff, parents and our community.

A few other things that we have added to the campus as a way to continue to offer our students the best educational experience: Yearbook Elective Class, Art Elective Class, Advanced Choir Class and our Lunch Time Athletic Programs. We feel the addition of these new classes are in allignment with our Districts mission of a Six Year College and Career Readiness Plan.

Calle Mayor 23-24 Principal Student Group(PSG). The Calle Mayor PSG is a group of students from all grade levels who meet with the Principal and provide me with information and ideas to continue to make the Calle campus a great place to learn and grow in. We are proud to have the following students represent the PSG:

8th Graders: Keefe R., Zoey C., Julianna C. and Leo N.

7th Graders: Winston C., Violet B., Cassidy J., Cisco C and Lauren O.

6th Grader: Hanna K., Mason C and Theodora F.

I look forward to meeting with all of you in the future and would like to welcome you to Calle Mayor Middle School. Please feel free to contact me with any of your questions or concerns.

Respectfully,

David Mosley
