Spartan Special Education Program

The Special Education Department at South High School provides two distinct programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Both programs share the goal of empowering students to reach their fullest potential while promoting inclusion, self-advocacy, and lifelong learning.

The Resource program serves students with mild to moderate disabilities, focusing on building academic skills, teaching students how to self-advocate, and providing support within the general education classroom, when appropriate. This program includes specialized academic instruction, accommodations, and services that help students succeed in their classes while developing the skills needed to succeed in the future, whether it be in college, a career, or a trade.

The Extensive Support Needs program supports students with moderate to severe disabilities, offering a more intensive and highly structured environment tailored to each student’s unique learning and developmental needs. This program prioritizes functional academics, daily living skills, communication, and vocational training to prepare students for greater independence and meaningful participation in their communities.
