Volunteer at Torrance Adult School

All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

Are you interested in volunteering? 

We depend on the time and talents of our generous volunteers to help our students. In addition to helping students in the classroom, you will find a variety of volunteer activities, including open enrollment, school events, graduation, and more! 

If you want to volunteer, please email Angelina Yoshida (yoshida.angelina@tusd.org) AND the program lead for the department you wish to help:

  • To volunteer in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program, please email Meredith Tait (tait.meredith@tusd.org)
  • To volunteer in the High School Diploma & GED program, please email Armando Chavez (chavez.armando@tusd.org)
  • To volunteer in the Career Technical Education (CTE) program, please email Yowanda Salter (salter.yowanda@tusd.org)

In addition to emailing the appropriate staff, all TAS volunteers MUST FIRST APPLY to become an approved Torrance Unified School District (TUSD) volunteer (see application button at the bottom of this page).

Before starting your volunteer application, please complete the Mandated Reporter and Child Abuse Prevention Training and gather the documents listed below. You will need to upload all required documents as part of your application. Because the application must be completed and submitted in a single session, please have all documents ready before you begin.

1. Completed Tuberculosis (TB) Health Screener

If you need a TB screening, free screenings are available at select Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) Centers. A list of locations, along with their screening days and hours, can be found on their Locations and Screening Times page.

2. Government-Issued Photo Identification

Provide a copy of any ONE of the following:

  • Driver's license
  • State identification card
  • U.S. passport
  • Military ID

The full legal name entered on your volunteer application must exactly match the name on your government-issued identification. All information collected through the volunteer application process will be kept confidential and used solely for administering the District Volunteer Program.

3. Mandated Reporter and Child Abuse Prevention Training Certificate of Completion

Before submitting your application, you must complete the required volunteer training.

  • Visit the Volunteer Training Site and then create an account.
  • When creating your account, select “Volunteer” for all three drop-down menus (Site, Primary and Secondary Occupation).
  • Click on the Staff/Volunteer Training icon in My Safety Portal.
  • Select the course titled Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting - Training for Volunteers in California under Your Course List, and click Start.
  • Watch both the Child Abuse and District Info training videos before completing the Test in section 3. A score of 70% or higher is needed to pass.
  • Make sure to Download and Save your Training Certificate of Completion as you will be required to upload it with your volunteer application.

*We will NOT accept Child Abuse and Neglect Training certificates from other sites or trainers. You must complete the Reporter Training through our TUSD Site.  Your application will not be accepted unless we receive a certificate associated with this website.

4. Submit Your Application Form and Upload Documents

Once your volunteer application has been submitted, you will receive email updates regarding the status of your application. Please ensure you provide a valid email address so you can receive these notifications.
