Community Education

Torrance Adult School (TAS) Community Education classes are self-supporting/self-sustaining and funded entirely by student fees. No taxpayer dollars are used to fund Community Education classes.

Registration & Class Availability

Early registration is highly encouraged and helps ensure that classes meet the minimum enrollment need to be offered.

  • Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment requirement may be canceled before the first class meeting.
  • Class locations are subject to change, and classes may be held at any Torrance Adult School campus.
  • New classes are continually developed and added based on community interest and needs.

Course Fees

Community Education course fees are based on factors such as the length of the class and anticipated enrollment.

Student fees help cover:

  • Community Education instructor salaries
  • Community Education facility usage
  • Community Education program operations
  • Clerical and administrative support

Refunds & Cancellations

IMPORTANT NOTE: There are no refunds (including pro-rated refunds), make-up classes, and/or credits issued unless a class is canceled by Torrance Adult School (TAS). While TAS will make every effort to secure a substitute for Community Education classes that are canceled due to teacher absence, it may not always be possible to find a replacement. Classes cancelled due to site emergencies will not be refunded, prorated or rescheduled. Due to scheduling constraints, certain classes may be selectively canceled to accommodate TUSD priority activities. In these circumstances, TAS will do our best to inform participants in advance, however, there will be no refunds, prorations or rescheduling of classes. Class substitutions may occur without prior notice. If this happens, credit will not be provided. However, if a class is canceled more than two times per session, a credit may be offered. Please be aware that cash cannot be offered in place of credit. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Please refer to our Community Education Classes Policy and Refund Policy for more information.
