Start-of-School News (August 12th Update)

Team Jaguar,

We hope you are all doing well at this time.  As most of you know a few weeks ago the Governor announced that all schools in Los Angeles County would be conducted online. Yesterday, TUSD Parents received an email, which identifies once schools do re-open that your child is on a certain cohort (either A, B or Distance) for the next school year. We have received a few phone calls and emails asking us if we are coming back to school in person on August 26th.  Unfortunately, we are not going to have students on campus at this time due to the Governors order, we are going to start online.  All students at this time, regardless of whether the are in Cohort A or B, will begin school online on AUGUST 26, 2020.  Student class schedules will be available to students and parents a few days before the start of school, they will be available on PowerSchool.

I have attached the Jefferson Virtual Schedule that we will be following moving forward until we open the doors to our campus. You will notice that ALL students will attend online classes on MONDAYS & THURSDAYS (Periods 1, 3, and 5) and on TUESDAYS & FRIDAYS (Periods 2, 4, and 6). On WEDNESDAYS, classes are not on a block schedule and students will be provided instruction by their teachers. The High Schools and the Middle Schools are on the same class schedule to prevent conflicts for students who attend both schools.

There is also time set aside for Office Hours/Intervention during the school day for students to receive additional help/support from their teachers. Please encourage your child to reach out to them if they need some support from their teachers.

District Forms will be available online, in PowerSchool, an email will be coming out from the District. Parents need to log into PowerSchool to update information and complete the district forms.  You will receive an email when you can get in there to take care of what you need to do in PowerSchool.

Next week we will be distributing the following materials in our lunch/quad area to our students to prepare for the start of the school year (please enter campus on Talisman Street):

  • Planner books (one for each student generously paid for by our PTSA)
  • Textbooks/Workbooks (if needed as some subjects solely have online books)
  • Chromebooks (only if there is not an available device to use at home)
  • Million Word Campaign Medals for Grade 7 & 8 (awards were earned during the 2019-20 school year)
  • Yearbooks (front office has a list of those who ordered books and need to pick them up, if you would like to purchase a yearbook supplies are VERY limited and it is on a first come first served basis)

Parent Q & A Meeting: 

We are scheduled to have a Parent Q & A Meeting on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 9:00am to answer any questions regarding the Jefferson Virtual Bell Schedule. Unfortunately, we will not be able to answer questions about specific student schedules for next year.  We will email you the link as we get closer to Tuesday.
