Welcome!

Dear Walteria Elementary School Community,

It is with great excitement that we begin the 2023-2024 school year.  I am honored to be a part of this extraordinary school community, and I am proud of our rich traditions and of the educational accomplishments of our students, faculty, and community. The teachers, staff, and administration look forward to working together as a team with our families to ensure that every student is achieving their highest potential.

This year marks my 21st year as an educator. Since graduating from Loyola Marymount University, I have served communities in the South Bay and Orange County.  My years of experience include many years of classroom teaching, but it is my work as a school administrator that I have found to be ultimately fulfilling in my professional work.  The elementary principalship provides me the chance to work collaboratively with teachers on a daily basis, while also remaining connected to young students' learning and growing in the classroom. I believe that every student can excel and that the partnership between home and school builds confidence in students, and gives them the ability to shape their future and the future of our community.  During my tenure, my focus will be in building strong relationships with all of you, and support the outstanding work wholeheartedly.

I believe in the Walteria mission dedicated to providing a safe and healthy learning environment in which the social, emotional, and academic development of all our students is a priority. To support this mission, we will continue to have counseling services this school year. We will also continue working with students to solve conflicts and engage in mediation. We will be implementing the social emotional learning curriculum called Second Step that nurtures children’s social-emotional competence and foundational learning skills. We look forward to being able to expand our services to students and strengthen our school culture. In addition, we will continue to build the Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) in order to provide a consistent and focused learning environment.  Walteria is proud to be recognized as a 2023 California State PBIS Coalition Bronze winning school, for outstanding school-wide PBIS implementation.

Each school year brings new and exciting challenges. As children grow, they develop the skills and abilities, which allow them to meet these challenges and to develop into responsible citizens. We look forward to working together in creating the best possible learning environment for all of our students at Walteria Elementary School.

In partnership,

Suzanne Guidi, Principal
