Literacy, Libraries, and Books

We acknowledge the power that literary skills can offer our students and encourage the exploration of words within books, the creative thinking that stories provide, and the ability to use one’s voice to articulate one’s thoughts. We encourage students to read as many books as interest them. Many of our classrooms and elementary schools offer libraries where students can access reading materials.

In addition, we encourage all our families to visit our incredible Torrance Public Library which offers a full children's section, branches in many parts of our City, and robust summer reading programs and educational events.

Welcome to the Carr Library

The Carr Elementary library and its team of parent volunteers serve students weekly.  Students have access to hundreds of fiction and non-fiction books including many Newbery Medal & Award winning books.  The library supports classroom curriculum in all grade levels.  The wide variety of easy & beginning readers and picture books promote literacy to our earlier readers.  Similary, our advanced readers have access to hundreds of popular fiction titles and authors as well as resources to research projects and reports.

The students visit the library on a weekly basis creating a heavy traffic of books that is managed by a dedicated library committee led by the Carr staff.  They are supported by an army of parent volunteers that make help students find and check out books.
