Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some basic answers to the frequently asked questions we get.
We strongly encourage you to take some time and go over all the sections on our website. There is a lot of information for both students and parents. Items such as the calendar, events, 8th grade page, clubs and sports will be updated throughout the new school year. For more detailed information on policies and procedures, please refer to the Magruder Handbook which is posted on this website.

Click here for a general list of supplies that may be needed throughout the school year.

Additionally, students must lock up their belongings during PE class. Combination locks are loaned out at the beginning of the year for the PE lockers. Like library books, students are responsible for them and are expected to return locks in the same condition at the end of the school year. There is a replacement cost of $10 if the lock gets damaged or lost.
Student cell phones and personal electronic devices must be turned off and kept out of sight during instructional time unless explicitly permitted by the teacher for academic use. Unauthorized use may result in confiscation and parent pickup requirements. Our goal is to minimize distractions and maximize learning.
Phones are absolutely not allowed (even if turned off) inside the gym locker rooms at any time.
If your student is absent:
- Notify the Attendance Office, preferably by our absence online form. You can also call or email.
- Provide a written note upon return if required.
If your student needs to leave early:
- Notify the Attendance Office by phone, email, before coming to pick up your student.
- Check them out through the front office with valid photo identification.
For safety reasons, students will only be released to individuals listed in our system. To contact the Attendance Office, please email magruder.attendance@tusd.org. For additional information please click here.
Our Health Office is staffed during the regular school day should a health need come up.
Please notify the school nurse of any medical conditions, medications, or health concerns. All medication (including over the counter items) must be checked in through the Health Office with proper documentation.
All visitors must check in at the front office with a valid photo ID and receive a visitor badge. For safety reasons, classroom visits must be pre-arranged with the teacher. All visitors to campus must present their photo ID and be processed through our RAPTOR system.
For any special events during school hours, we ask visitors to complete our Pre-Screening Form at least 24 hours in advance.
Gates to school open at 8:20am.
During the morning drop-off and afternoon pickup times, please do not stop your car by the front gate (near the office). Follow the car ahead and pull further down by the middle gates along Osage Avenue (which runs along the front of the school classroom buildings.) This helps to avoid traffic backing up. Students being dropped off on the opposite side of the street must use the crosswalk.
Parents are not allowed in the staff parking lot to drop off or pickup students.
After school, all students must be off campus by 3:30pm (unless they are involved with a school-supervised activity.)
Student Attire
Students must dress in school appropriate attire when they are here on campus. Please refer to the Magruder Handbook if you are unsure if an outfit is school acceptable.
Shoes
Closed-toe shoes and socks must be worn at all times. Tennis or athletic shoes are required for physical education. For safety reasons, Crocs, clogs, flip-flops, and slippers are not allowed: students wearing those items will stay in the office until a parent can bring another pair of shoes.
