The safety of all our students during Pickup and Dropoff is incredibly important.
We need your help to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during these congested and busy times. Please discuss and decide as a family where the designated pickup and dropoff points will be for your child/children. Never double (or triple) park in the street to pick up your child, and please use the crosswalks. Please follow the directions of all posted signs, staff, volunteers and crossing guards.
Please drop off and pick up your students on time. There is no supervision before our school opens in the morning and your child should be picked up within 15 minutes of school ending.
Pickup and Dropoff Procedure
Our school day begins at 8:50 am. Each day at 8:50 am we will lock the back gate. The front and back gates will be the only entrances for students in Grades 1-5. The kindergarten gate will be open to TK/kindergarten students only.
Please adhere to the rules of our valet program, they are in place for the safety of our Hounds In brief, do not leave your car parked in the valet line from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 2:30-3:45 p.m., and on Wednesdays from 2:00-2:45 p.m. The valet line is only for loading and unloading students. When loading and unloading, please have your student use the car door closest to the curb. If your student isn’t visible in the waiting area when you are picking up, you will be asked to move your car and re-enter the end of the valet line. Please be aware of your surroundings and drive responsibly. Our student's safety and well-being are a priority for all of us at Hickory, and to that end we ask you follow these simple rules:
use the proper crosswalks and follow the directions of our crossing guards
use the valet system in the front of the school everyday
drop off students when supervision starts (8:35 a.m. grades 1-5, 8:45 Kdg.)
always supervise students at Hickory Park
please do not enter the Staff Parking Lot before, during, or after school
Hickory Park Dismissal Option:
Safety is the number one priority at Hickory Elementary School. In an effort to ensure the safety of all of our Hounds:
Any grade 1-5 students utilizing the Hickory Park gate must have a BLUE tag placed on their backpacks. The tag will need to be attached to your child's backpack. This will notify Hickory staff that you have agreed to have your child/children exit out to Hickory Park gate. If you pick up your child at the park gate, have a discussion with your child/children to wait inside the gate, until you arrive. Please remember that there is never Hickory staff supervision at Hickory Park and the gate closes at 3:25 p.m.(WEDNESDAY @ 2:40 p.m.) NEW for 23-24: By submitting this form, you understand that your student(s) will be released through the gate when the bell rings. Hickory staff will ensure that your student has a tag prior to dismissal, however eye-to eye contact with an adult will no longer continue as in previous years. If this is a concern for you, please do NOT complete this form and plan your pickup accordingly. If you have multiple students attending Hickory Elementary that you would like to have exit this gate, please complete a separate form for each student.
