Special Needs Concerns? You can request an assessment!

If your child is at least 2 years, 10 months, you are a resident of Torrance, and have concerns about your child's development, an evaluation can be done to determine if they meet eligibility criteria in the area of a suspected disability. Please contact our preschool school psychologist, Alana Garcia, if you have questions: (310) 972-6500 x- 2551.

If you are ready to enroll to start the Initial Special Education assessment process, please contact the Family Welcome Enrollment Center or click the link below for more information. You will need to enroll in person, and once you do so, our preschool assessment team will get the process started with you.

Assessment Process:

Once enrolled at the Family Welcome Enrollment Center, LAUNCH’s preschool assessment team will reach out to you and begin the assessment process. The initial assessment process involves interviews, play-based assessments from related specialists, and various observations in natural settings.  Children are assessed in all areas of concern to determine if the child meets one of the 13 areas of eligibility (see Ed code 56026).

The team will then meet to discuss findings and offer recommendations. If eligible for special education, the team will work together to develop goals and determine the most appropriate program to meet the child’s progress.
