STUDENT ENRICHMENT

Enrichment

Throughout the year, Yukon students may enroll in various after school enrichment programs offered on-site by a number of community organizations. These fee-based programs provide students the opportunity to explore areas of interest such as chess, drawing, sculpting, building, acting, engineering and others. Check back often for current programs. Enrollment information will be announced in the Yukon eBlast.

The GATE Program

Torrance Unified School District prides itself on academic excellence and the high achievement of our students. The goal of our GATE program is to identify students with exceptional abilities, well beyond grade or age expectations, and then establish how the child can receive both differentiated learning experiences within the classroom and enrichment opportunities outside of the classroom.

GATE testing of all 3rd grade students takes place in October. A letter with testing details and schedule is mailed to parents in September.  No form or application for participation in third grade GATE testing is necessary.  If you do NOT wish your student to be tested for GATE eligibility, you will need to complete and sign the opt-out form in the fall.

You will receive a letter from the district indicating eligibility status for GATE placement approximately 12 weeks after the last testing session is completed. Students qualify for GATE placement by scoring in the 95th percentile or higher on the NNAT3. If your student does not qualify for GATE placement in this initial testing, one more opportunity will be offered in grades 4-5.
