Dear Parents of Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Boys and Girls:
John Adams Elementary School will be participating in a citywide bicycle safety program on Friday, March 13. A written bike safety test will be given and then there will be a series of six skill tests:
- Balancing at a slow speed
- Straight line riding
- Weaving
- Circling
- U-turn in a narrow lane
- Stop on the spot
A total score will then be determined, and every participant will receive a certificate. The top finishers will go to the Citywide finals at Victor Elementary School on Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Torrance Fire Fighter’s Association is again sponsoring this event and is awarding prizes to the winners. We urge your sons and daughters to participate in this worthwhile event. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Bike Rodeo Co-Chairs

Please note—If your child wants to participate, return the attached permission slip by the day of the rodeo, Friday, March 13. Your child MUST have their HELMET and BIKE at school before 8:45 a.m. Bikes must be stored in the bike area in the courtyard. Please be sure that your child’s bike tires are pumped up, the brakes work, etc. If their bike is unsafe, they won’t be able to participate. Helmets are mandatory. Your child will not be allowed to participate without one. Remember it is a state law that minors must wear an approved bicycle helmet. It is also a TUSD policy (No. 474.82) that all students must wear a helmet when riding to and from school.

The attached Parent’s Approval and Student Waiver must be signed by one parent/guardian and returned to your child’s teacher by the morning of the event. (Teachers, please send the form with the students to the playground when your class is called.)
