State law mandates that all individuals with exceptional needs have a right to participate in a free, appropriate public education with special education and services when necessary. Assessment for special education is provided for children from birth to 21 years of age.
Speech and Language
The Speech and Language Program is for students who have been identified as having speech and/or language problems. Assistance is provided by the Language/Speech Specialist in an individual or small group setting. This program is part of the services provided through the Designated Instruction Services which functions within the Special Education Program.

Counselors teach classroom lessons to all students on topics such as social/emotional, academic, and career needs.
Individual Student Planning
Counselors assist students with goal-setting, decision- making, academic & career planning, and transition planning.
Individual and small group counseling, peer mediation, consultation & collaboration with parents and staff.
School counselors participate in schoolwide program planning and implementation such as PBIS, consulting and collaborating with other professionals, and coordinating of various supports for students and families.

How does your child experience school counseling services?
Counselors provide a safe and confidential environment for students to discuss topics regarding their social/emotional needs, career goals as well as academic success. Some topics that we may discuss include: friendship issues, stress, time management, goal-setting, academic planning, bullying, family changes, social skills, organization, career exploration and development of problem solving skills. School counseling is brief and solution focused and centers around skill building, not therapy.
Small Group Counseling:
A variety of small groups are offered to students sharing similar issues or life experiences who may benefit from working together with around 3-6 of their peers. Group sessions usually last about 30 minutes and are held for approximately 6-8 weeks. Topics are based on the needs of the students and may include: divorce or changing families, grief and loss, friendship and social skills, study skills, conflict resolution, anger management, self-esteem, and stress-management.
Classroom Counseling Lessons:
Counselors visit each classroom multiple times throughout the school year and have the chance to interact with every student during these lessons. Lessons typically last 30 minutes in length and cover topics such as school readiness skills, understanding feelings of self and others, problem solving skills, friendship skills, and study skills, all of which address the social, emotional, and academic needs of students.
