President's Welcome Letter
Dear Victor Families,
Welcome back to our returning families, teachers and staff! To our Kindergarten and new families: Welcome to the Victor community! I look forward to meeting all of you eventually, when we are able! A little bit about myself, my name is Ashley Elrod, and I was the PTA Treasurer for the previous two school years, I have served on multiple committees, and I really enjoy being a part of the Victor Community. I have a 3rd Grade son named Sammy, a 1-year old boy named Jackson, and my niece just started Kindergarten at Victor. I have two goldendoodles, and a dachshund! My husband and I have been together since our Senior Year at West High School. I grew up in West Torrance, and I am grateful my boys get to as well.
The Victor PTA is an integral part of our school. Not only do we normally host fun events like Movie Night, Science Night and Dances during the year, we fully fund educational programs that benefit all of our students. Examples of the usual programs we provide are, K-3 music program, Adventures in Art, Study Trips, Educational Assemblies, our Library, and more, which are paid 100% by the PTA.
This year we are thinking outside the box, in order to bring enrichment and support to each child and our teachers. We are open to hearing your suggestions, and welcome them, so please email me anytime
We have been able to provide these activities in previous years because of the support of our Victor families. Typically, during this time of year we do a Direct Donation Fundraiser, to continue the PTA funded programs. Due to these unprecedented times we are not requesting direct donations, at this moment. We are all in this together. That being said, we are excited and looking into new ways to help support Victor during this time.
Our Victor PTA Membership Drive is under way as of September 1, 2020! I encourage you all to renew or start a new membership for only $10 per person. Your membership gives you a voice at PTA meetings, early access to PTA events (once able), discounts at various businesses and - most importantly - you are supporting the oldest and largest child advocacy organization in the US! In addition to this letter, you should receive our Membership Flyer, and I will be posting links on Facebook and Instagram shortly on how to join. We will be opening an Online Store for Viking’s Spirit Wear and more shortly, so stay tuned.
Becoming a PTA member does not mean you are expected Volunteer – however, for our community to be strong, everyone’s participation is essential. Many parents feel they cannot participate in the PTA because of language barriers or they cannot be available during the day because of work - please don’t let that discourage you. Whether you have 30 minutes or a few hours, your time, your ideas, your talents, and your voice are truly needed and appreciated. There are endless possibilities for family members to contribute, and we can match any time constraints and abilities to needed tasks. Even though we are virtual, that doesn’t mean we don’t have volunteer opportunities available!
Our PTA Executive Board Meets monthly, via Zoom right now, and we are always working as a team to figure out how we can best help Victor, and we work directly with Mr. Baker, Mrs. Taylor, and Teacher Representatives for each grade level. Our Association Meetings are held four times a year, and that is where all PTA Members can attend.
Please contact me anytime about PTA questions that you may have. VictorVikingsPTA@gmail.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. . Please follow us on Instagram at @VictorElementaryPTA and Facebook at Victor Vikings PTA. Those will be a source of PTA information as the year continues.
I wish you all a fulfilling and productive year ahead! Thank you for your support and patience this year! I wish you all a fulfilling and productive year ahead!
