Every year PTSA awards graduating seniors, who were former Mustangs, scholarships to help them with their future plans. These students submit the application and a committee of volunteers (including teachers) reads through and chooses a few recipients. These hard working students are well deserving and we wish them all the luck in the future. Congratulations to Doyup Kwan, Alyssa Mirabal, Sarah Beasley, and Lana Mai!
Doyup Kwon
Doyup Kwon is a graduating senior at North High School who plans to study environmental science and engineering in college. Throughout his time in middle and high school, he has been involved with numerous organizations that have fed both his love for the outdoors and his commitment to service, including numerous preservation and volunteer groups. Having also been a swimmer for all four years of high school, he has been able to learn the habits of hard work and determination to help him work towards the goals he has both now and in the future. He hopes to eventually combat the effects of environmental racism and improve the lives of people around him through the tools that he gains in higher education.

Alyssa Mirabal
My name is Alyssa Mirabal and I am a graduating senior from North High. This fall I will be attending the University of Southern California. I am majoring in biological sciences on the pre-med track. Throughout my years at North, I have played soccer and served as Varsity captain this year. I spend my free time volunteering for the American Red Cross and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. I am involved in National Honor Society, ASB, and Human Relation Ambassadors.
Sarah Beasley
Sarah Beasley is a Senior at North High School. She is graduating as one of the four Graduate Scholars at North High, earning straight A’s for every semester. Sarah played soccer for North all four years, finishing her career on the Varsity team. In her spare time, she volunteered at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Sarah's favorite memory of Magruder was playing field hockey with her friends during PE class. Sarah started to develop her love for math and science during her last year at Magruder, leading her to choose her career path in medicine.

Hello! My name is Lana Mai and I am planning on attending UC Irvine this upcoming fall! I have grown up in North Torrance my whole life and have even become part of North High’s dance program. I am apart of Torrance’s Youth Council and an frequent volunteer to my community. I am honored to have received the Magruder PTA scholarship and continue to pursue my future endeavors.
