Ms. Evelina Tena
My name is Ms.Tena and I am back at Fern this year! I have special roots in Torrance as it was my birth place! I grew up in Wilmington and went to Phineas Banning High School! I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Azusa Pacific University where I was a full time student and full time athlete. I played softball for the university and was a utility player (which means I played multiple positions). However I was mostly put at 2nd and shortstop! Those were fun times. I am still very active and to this day play in adult softball leagues. I also received my Master Degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction from Grand Canyon University.
I have been teaching since 2008. I began working for Torrance Unified School District in 2016 and was at Fern in 2017 as a 4th grade teacher! I have a range of experience in teaching from preschool age ranges to 3rd grade into 5th grade. I also worked as an intervention teacher at Evelyn Carr Elementary School. I am very happy to be working at Fern again as an intervention teacher and I look forward to helping students grow to reach their academic goals!
In my free time I enjoy being with family and friends. Every summer is an adventure where I resolve to take at least one trip to a place I have never been; either local or a plane ride away! So far I have ventured out to Texas, Tennessee, Hawaii, Florida, Georgia, Virginia (far off places) to Julian, CA, Santa Barbara, CA, and Julian CA (local). Oh and Big Bear too (it is so beautiful in the summertime). I enjoy beach bike rides with friends, movie nights with family, and a DIY project or two!
I am a lifelong learner and enjoy finding and exploring new concepts I never realized before. It's an experience that builds me up and I desire to impart that passion into the students I come across.
Here is to a great year teaching and learning at Fern Elementary School! Go Falcons!
