Welcome to a New School Year
Dear Edison Students and Families:
Welcome to the start of the 2019-20 school year at Edison Elementary! I want to extend a warm welcome to all returning parents and students, as well as new families joining our Edison Family. We are very lucky at Edison to have both high quality teachers and support staff who are well trained to make a positive difference in your child’s life. They are experts in providing a positive learning environment and balanced instructional program to meet the physical, social, emotional and academic needs of your child. Student learning will continue to be our top priority, where all students belong, have access to high quality instruction, and reach their full potential.
At Edison, we believe the education of your child is a three-way partnership between the school, parent and child. When families and the school work together, a positive attitude about school is developed and children tend to be more successful. We ask that you do everything in your power to make sure that your child arrives at school on time each day, rested and ready to learn. With regular attendance and working together we can make a powerful and positive difference in the life of your child. Please make note of the Arrival Schedule:
- 8:20-8:50 a.m. Cafeteria opens only for students purchasing breakfast
- 8:35-8:50 a.m. Playgrounds open with supervision
Student safety is a top priority at Edison and in efforts to improve safety and security on campus we will begin implementing a Visitor/Volunteer Management System. We also encourage families to use the valet drop-off in the North High parking lot. Please enter the valet line safely and slowly when traveling east bound on 182nd Street. Do not enter turning left from 182nd Street as this presents a traffic hazard. Students having breakfast must report directly to the Cafeteria with all materials and backpacks. Students arriving at 8:35 a.m. may hang up their backpacks at their classrooms and report directly to the appropriate playground. Please refer to the Arrival and Dismissal Guidelines for detailed information. Also refer to the Our School section of our website for more information.
Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a very active group and a key ingredient to our team effort in educating all children. Parent volunteers assist staff by volunteering in classrooms, helping to organize and prepare materials, working in the library and by helping raise funds to support our students. Our goal is to have each child’s family become a member of the PTA. We hope that if you are not yet a member of the PTA that you will join this year, get involved and enjoy the journey with us. Thank you in advance for your support!
In an effort to ensure communication between school and home, we will send home information regularly via email and correspondence with students. Please make sure that you list your email address on the Emergency Contact page on Power School so that you will be included on weekly emails of important school information and safety alerts. Parents are invited to our weekly Monday Spirit Assemblies at 8:50 am. Our first Spirit Assembly of the year will be on Tuesday, September 3 as we are closed on Monday, Sept 2 for Labor Day. Save the Date for Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 12 from 6:30 pm for 3rd-5th grades and 7:30 pm for TK-2nd grades.
Let’s have a successful and rewarding school year!
