Principal's Welcome

Welcome to a New School Year

August, 2020

Dear Edison Students and Families:

Welcome to the start of the 2020-2021 school year at Edison Elementary! I want to extend a warm welcome to all returning parents and students, as well as new families joining our Edison Family. Whether you have chosen Blended AM/PM or Distance Learning, we will all begin our school year online.

We all learned a lot from last year’s virtual teaching and have made many adjustments and improvements to ensure that all students will receive a rigorous education during this unprecedented school closure. We are very lucky at Edison to have both high quality teachers and support staff who are well trained to make a positive difference in your child’s life. They are experts in providing a positive learning environment and balanced instructional program to meet the physical, social, emotional, and academic needs of your child.  Student learning will continue to be our top priority, where all students belong, have access to high quality instruction, and reach their full potential.

At Edison, we believe the education of your child is a three-way partnership between the school, parent, and child. When families and the school work together, a positive attitude about school is developed and children tend to be more successful.  We ask that you do everything in your power to make sure that your child is online and on time each day, rested, have eaten breakfast or lunch and ready to learn prior to class starting. With regular attendance and working together we can make a powerful and positive difference in the life of your child(ren).

This year we are not only monitoring attendance to live instruction (via Zoom or Google Meets), but we will also be monitoring student engagement as well. This means that we are tracking that your child is engaged and have submitted student work, and will be graded accordingly.

Our Edison Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a very active group and a key ingredient to our team effort in educating all our children. In a regular year, parent volunteers assist staff by volunteering in classrooms, help to organize and prepare materials, work in the library, and help to raise funds to support our students. Unfortunately, at this time, volunteers are not able to work on campus, but we do need your help with raising funds, becoming a PTA member and making a donation to invest in your child’s education. Thank you in advance for your support!

In an effort to ensure communication between school and home, we will send home information regularly via email and correspondence with students. Please make sure that you list your email address on the Emergency Contact page on Power School so that you will be included on weekly emails of important school information and safety alerts. Parents are invited to our weekly Wednesday Spirit Assemblies at 10:00 am via Zoom. Please note however, our first Spirit Assembly of the year will be on Wednesday, August 26 at 9:00 AM. After the schoolwide assembly via Zoom, students will be instructed to log in to meet their teacher and classmates. Teachers will email you and your child the first day links on August 25th, 2020.

Let’s have a successful and rewarding school year!

My Best Regards,
