Students that do not engage in educational activities during the summer may experience a loss of learning, sometimes referred to as the summer slide. An effective way to keep your student on track this summer is to have them continue to read on a daily basis throughout the summer. Edison Elementary, the City of Torrance Library, and Barnes and Noble are all offering incentives to students who read during the summer. Click on the links on this page to download the reading journals for each program and to learn more about the incentives offered by each. Encourage your child to read at least 15 minutes a day throughout the summer. Then have them turn in their reading logs to your local Torrance library and your local Barnes and Noble by the end of summer deadline so they may collect their free gifts. Students may return the Edison Reading Log the first week of school in September to earn their prize for Edison's program.
