NUTRITION APPLICATION BY 12/18/20 AT:     https://family.titank12.com/
Even though TUSD is able to offer free meals to all students throughout the year, regardless of family income, it is vitally important to maintain funding for low income academic support programs that any family who might normally qualify for the Free Reduced Meal Program submits their household income information no later than December 18th..
If your household income may normally qualify you for free-reduced meals, please be sure to read the attached letter and submit your family income.  It is a quick process and will help maintain funding for our school. In fact as of now we are short about $30,000 because many families have not completed the nutrition application. This amount could fund 3 classrooms with 27 chromebooks & chrome cart.

Your Child's Teacher

Edison Parents/Students:

Be sure you login to your PowerSchool to complete your eCollect Registration. It needs to be completed by every family by 8/26. Thank you to those of you who already completed it!

On PowerSchool you can find your assigned teacher's name. We decided that this will be the method to find out your  teacher's name.

Today, 8/25, your child's teacher will email you by 4 PM to introduce themself to you and give you a link to their first online class.

Wednesday, August 26, 2020, is the First Day of School (from home). At 9:00 AM, please join the First Day Assembly by clicking the link in the email that was sent out on August 25th. I only have a Zoom license for up to 500 people to access, with an enrollment of 455, so please do your best to only have one device on to view the School-wide Assembly. It will also be recorded for parents who cannot attend at 9:00 AM.

At the end of the Schoolwide Virtual Assembly, I will ask students to go directly to their email and log in to their teachers link to Google Meets or Zoom class. All students should attend the Virtual Assembly to know when to log in to meet their teacher and classmates.

On the first day we are combining the AM and PM blended groups for one class in the morning only. Distance Learning students will also only attend class in the morning as well. Teachers will be in meetings in the afternoon. The typical schedule every Wednesday is for classes to meet from 9 - 10 am, and then students will attend the Schoolwide assembly after at 10:05 AM.

See you tomorrow at the Virtual Assembly at 9:00 AM!

Starting August 18 – August 28, stop by the front of the school and take a selfie or picture of your children holding a sign, “First Day of (grade level)”. PTA has created several lawn signs that say, “Welcome to Edison 20-21” which makes for a nice prop for your child’s First day picture.  Click here to download pre-made signs for them to hold. Some teachers may need to add additional essential items like a white board and white board marker, highlighter, post it notes, index cards, scissors, and glue stick, however this will be decided after the teachers meet for their first work day on 8/24. You can opt out of accepting these supplies if you already have them.

We have had a few families ask about a homeschool option. We may have a solution for you. For students who can work independently and are academically at or above grade level, Home Based Independent Study (HBIS) will allow parents to act as the learning coach and work through the district's curriculum at your own weekly pace. Please see the links below to download the FAQs and reach out to me if you would like more information.

For Parents of Edison's 5th Grade Class of 2020:

Dear Edison Parent:

Hope this email finds you and your family doing well. I hope your child is excited to start middle school.  First, I would like to thank 5th grade parent Yoko Mack who organized and put together the 5th Grade Memory Book. It is now completed and in the mail on the way to your home. It is filled with wonderful memories of your child(ren).

I went online to look at reviews about Edison Elementary and I was surprised to see that there were not many reviews, and majority reviews were over 5+ years old. My goal in asking if you would be willing to write a review is to try to boost enrollment to eliminate combination classes, and to spread any positive reviews to the community. Please note that Ratings are mainly based on test scores (3rd - 5th grade), and that Reviews are based on the number of stars you assign to the school.

There are 4 main sites you can write a review on. Some, you will need to set up a user name, and others you can simply click and type away. Here are the links to the most popular sites to write a review on. Just select the site you want to write a review on, and click on the link of your choice below. Or you can download a flyer with all the links here.

1. Great Schools - https://bit.ly/ReviewEdisonOnGreatSchools

2. Schooldigger - https://bit.ly/ReviewEdisonOnSchooldigger

3. Niche - https://bit.ly/ReviewEdisonOnNiche

4. Google Reviews – https://bit.ly/ReviewEdisonOnGoogle

I truly appreciate your time in typing up a review for Edison Elementary School. Thank you in advance.

Best wishes to you and your family for a safe, healthy and relaxing summer. If you have any questions about your child’s education and would like my opinion or guidance, feel free to reach out any time. Once an Eagle, always an Eagle!

Best regards,

Mrs. Okazaki

Edison Families:

Until schools physically reopen, the school day will look nearly identical for both instructional models, as Blended Learning can be delivered virtually. The biggest difference is the students in the Blended Learning model will return to school when it is safe. Students in the Distance Learning model will continue to learn from home as outlined in the Parent Guide emailed to parents earlier this week.

Remember that the deadline to opt into Distance learning is today.

If you change your mind or are having any complications with PowerSchool, please email me and I will be able to assist you today.  If you still don't know which option to select and would like to talk it out, feel free to give me a call today at 310-533-4513 Ext 2080.

If this is your first time checking emails, the following emails from TUSD are most important to read:

  • July 14 - only new families received new PowerSchool parent portal user ID/password. Check spam if you didn't receive this.
  • July 15 - Parent Guide attached to the superintendent's letter
  • July 17 - Email explaining Governor Newsom's announcement and guidelines

Thank you.
Mrs. Okazaki

2020-2021 School Year

Dear Edison Families,

Yesterday you received a parent guide from our District office (click to download) providing you with information to assist in making a choice whether you want your child(ren) to learn from home (100% distance learning model) next year or whether you want them to return to school (blended model) after the TUSD board decides when it is safe to reopen schools.

I want to reiterate that you are making this choice (distance or blended) for how you want your children to learn during the 2020-2021 school year in the event that we can safely reopen our schools. Our Board of Education will reopen schools if and only if it is safe for us to open schools and have scheduled a Board meeting for August 3, 2020, at 7 pm to discuss this matter. Whether schools are allowed to physically open next month or not, the first day of instruction is August 26, 2020.

In addition to reading this 18 page “20-21 TUSD Guide for Parents” document, there will be District hosted informational question and answer sessions via Zoom. Today’s parent information Question/Answer session will be held twice. The opening statement and updates will be the same, so you can attend either, however the morning 10 am session is geared more towards elementary families, and the 5 pm session is geared towards secondary families.  If you cannot attend either Zoom meetings, don’t worry because all Parent forums are recorded and can be found on https://www.tusd.org/parents

Here are the zoom links to the July 16, 2020 Parent Information Q and A:
Elementary (Password: 034977) at 10 am
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81826797303?pwd=YStza2pWd081SE5FeTl0TG5pd1hHUT09

Secondary (Password 05628) at 5 pm
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89296995333?pwd=NGF0cG92MjRkaklkSGNmL2V5K0gvZz09

The deadline to select the 100% Distance Learning Model for the 20-21 school year is Monday, July 20, 2020. If you want Distance Learning you will select this via your PowerSchool parent portal.

  1. Log into PowerSchool Parent Portal (https://ps.tusd.org). For NEW parents you received an email on 7/14 with your PowerSchool Access ID and password.
  2. Click on eCollect Forms
  3. Click on the form called 2020-2021 Distance Learning Opt-in Click Submit at the bottom right side of the screen
  4. If you have more than one student, click on each child's name below the Powerschool logo and repeat the steps above
  5. For Technical Support with PowerSchool, please call 310-972-6994

If you forgot your user/pass, just click the "Forgot my username or password" link on the login page. Be sure you are logging in via the Parent portal, and not your student's portal. If the user name is your child’s student ID, you are in the wrong portal. Student accounts don't have access to eCollect forms or registration forms.  Also if you are trying to access eCollect Forms via your smartphone you will need to use the full browser and not the app as the PowerSchool app does not have access to the eCollect or registration forms.

Remember, if you do not opt in/select 100% distance learning model you will be automatically assigned to the Blended Learning model when school reopens. Since the blended model has both AM and PM classes, you will be receiving a survey about this. If you respond with your need for AM versus PM, there is no guarantee on which session your family will be assigned to, but for those who have work constraints, I will attempt to balance the classes with your needs in mind.

Lastly, please don't forget to calendar Thursday, August 13th for Coffee with the Principal via Zoom. I will send a Zoom link that week.

Best regards,

Jayne Okazaki
