Must be Present to WIN!!
Did you know that good attendance matters for school success? Nationwide 1 out of 10 students are chronically absent, meaning they miss 10% or more school days, which equates to a month of school! Your child can fall into the chronic absence range just by missing 1 to 2 days every month of school.
Being on time to school is also important. Let’s set our children up for success! Not only does being on time and having good attendance help children do well in school, it leads to developing good habits and success for the future, on the job and in life.
Just to give you an idea how bad attendance was last week:
- Monday - 32 Absent; 19 Tardy
- Tuesday - 24 Absent; 22 Tardy
- Wednesday - 29 Absent; 14 Tardy
- Thursday - 42 Absent; 15 Tardy
- Friday - 43 Absent; 16 Tardy
Bike Rodeo 3/15
For all 3rd – 5th graders – Dust off your bicycles and safety gear and bring your bike to school on Friday, March 15th. Students will test their bike riding skills in pedaling slow, weaving in/out of cones, riding in a circle, and stopping on a mark. We will need parent volunteers to help set up and run the bike stations. 1st – 3rd place boys and girls will be invited to compete in the district to Bike Rodeo. Winners receive trophies, and the top winner will receive a gift bond for college.
South Bay Lakers Basketball Clinic 3/19
The players will come to Edison on March 19 to do basketball clinics for all grade levels during their lunch recesses. Feel free to come out and shoot some hoops or just take pictures.
As a thank you for the Suite Night we would like to give the South Bay Lakers a nice basket of goodies when they come on 3/19 as well as serve some food. For those who would like to contribute, please give the office money with your name (suggested amount is $5-$10) so we can purchase something nice.
Turn in your box tops. They can even be put in a baggie labelled with your child’s name and classroom number. Each top class will receive prizes.
Lost and Found
Daily, the custodian turns in a large bag filled with jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes left on the blacktop. Please label all jackets and lunch boxes so that items can be returned to you.
It's a great day at Edison. Have a fantastic week!
