California Assessment of Student Performance (CAASPP)

Smarter Balanced Assessments will be given to all 3rd - 5th grade students in May in English Language Arts and mathematics. 5th grade students will take the California Science Test (CAST) as well.

The CAASPP tests were not administered in 2020 due to COVID-19 and the school closure, therefore results for the 2019-2020 school year are not available for parents.  At this time we have been told that a shortened version of the CAASPP assessment as well as the CAST will be given to students in grades 3-5 this spring, but we do not have any details regarding the administration.  This site will be updated as more information is received.

English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC)

ELPAC (formerly CELDT) will no longer be given in the summer. Only Kindergarten students or students just entering the country will be given an initial ELPAC test. Instead, students will take the ELPAC in Spring. Due to COVID-19 and the timing of the school closure last March, not all students were given the ELPAC, so scores are not available for all EL families.  The District is still working out the details for how the ELPAC test will be administered to students this year. Please email Cathy Di Vincenzo (divincenzo.cathy@tusd.org) if you have questions or concerns. Thank you.

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)

GATE testing is universally given to all 3rd graders in Torrance Unified School District (unless parent opts their child out).  Students may take the test one more time in either 4th or 5th grade.  Students may only take the test twice and it is not offered after 5th Grade.  Due to COVID-19 and the school closure, GATE testing is not offered at this time.  Once more information is received, we will update this website.  Thanks.
