Opened in February, 1959. (11.4 acres bought in 1957 for $163,000). Additions in 1960, 1972, 1975, 1990. Construction cost: $%69,000. Frame stucco 46,756 sq. ft., 10 buildings, 32 classrooms. Named after Phillip Magruder, Mobil Oil Company official and industrial school supporter. After Crenshaw School closing in 1972, its overpass was moved to Magruder?s Prairie Avenue crossing. (Overpass was damaged by passing truck, 1986, and restored.) Became a middle school in 1969. Peak enrollment: 780 in 1974. Capacity: 780. Nickname/mascot: Mustangs.
