Opened in 1913. (Latest campus, 8.7 acres donated to the district by the Navy in 1961). Opened as K-8 school in wood frame building still standing at 1824 Cabrillo avenue. Later additions. Originally under Los Angeles School District. Moved to Torrance High School plant in 1917, and was jointly administered. In 1923, it got its own campus at 2001 Martina Avenue (3.8 acres just south of Torrance High originally part of the high school campus). Operated "Pueblo Camp" annex and Americanization School for Mexicans 1926-32 near present Del Amo and Van Ness. In 1928-29, operated annex at present Fern School. Damaged by March, 1933 earthquake; some classes held in tents until reconstruction. School joined Torrance School District in 1947.

Torrance Elementary Boundary

Moved to present site in 1963. Construction cost: $670,000. Previous plant used to expand Torrance High. Additions in 1991, 1997. Brick construction, 37,895 sq. ft., 9 buildings, 27 classrooms. Became K-6 school in 1976: K-5 school in 1983. Nickname/mascot: Tigers.
