TUSD Schools Continue Tradition of Excellence
May 10, 2008
Each of the four school sites enjoyed support from their respective PTAs, community members, local businesses, and TUSD maintenance staff, all of whom contributed tremendous resources and time to prepare the campuses for the site visits by State officials as a part of the Distinguished School process. Everything from donating supplies, to planting flowers and trees for the gardens and entryways, to cleaning and sprucing up classrooms, hallways, and bathrooms was accomplished only because of the dedication of TUSD maintenance and operations personnel, teachers, parents, and neighbors. Arnold, Riviera, and Towers Elementary Schools went through the rigorous Distinguished School process for the first time and each one came out as a shining star. Towers Elementary PTA President, MegAnn Lee reflects on the whole experience, “I have always thought of Towers as a strong family. This really proved to me the dedication of the staff, parents, students, alumni, and surrounding small businesses that supported us so that we could show the community that Towers is deserving of being awarded the title California Distinguished School. I am very proud to be the president of such a great school family!”
The California Department of Education’s recognition program is now in its 23rd year and identifies and honors the state's most exemplary and inspiring public schools with the California Distinguished School Award. Although participation is voluntary, the award is highly sought after by schools in all areas of the state. Each of the schools in California will be recognized at a special ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim on May 16, 2008.
