CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Mr. Furey at 3:30 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES –Regular Meeting of April 1, 2008
Dr. Klonecky moved, seconded by Dr. Griffith, that the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 15, 2008 be approved. Motion carried 3/0.
APPROVAL OF ELIGIBILITY LIST- Educational Assistant- Special Education- ASSISTT
Dr. Griffith moved, seconded by Dr. Klonecky that the Eligibility List- Educational Assistant-Special Education-ASSISTT be approved. Motion carried 3/0.
APPROVAL OF NEW JOB DESCRIPTION- TRANSITION PARAEDUCATOR
Dr. Klonecky moved, seconded by Dr. Griffith, that the New Job Description-Transition Paraeducator be tabled for the next Personnel Commission Meeting on May 6, 2008. Motion carried 3/0.
Ms. Kathy Kelley, CSEA Chapter 845 President, reported her concerns with the proposed pay for the new position of Transition Paraeducator. She added that as a result of additional duties of transporting students and assisting in vocational activities, the salary should be between the Paraeducator-Tier II and Educational Assistant-Special Education-ASSISTT classifications according to the 2007-2008 Classified Salary Schedule-C, Aide/Instructional Assistant/Paraprofessional Employees, Bargaining Unit C.
Ms. Irmgard Lake, CSEA Chapter 845 First Vice-President, noted liability issues and increase in personal insurance fees that could arise as a result of transporting students in one’s own vehicle.
Mr. Furey requested further research and information regarding District insurance coverage for positions requiring transportation of students in a personal vehicle.
APPROVAL OF 2007-2008 RECLASSIFICATION STUDY- Mr. Richard Ide, Consultant
Dr. Griffith moved, seconded by Dr. Klonecky that the 2007-2008 Reclassification Study be approved. Motion carried 3/0.

COMMENTS FROM PERSONNEL COMMISSIONERS
Mr. Furey stated that Torrance Education Foundation (TEF) raffle tickets for a Toyota Prius automobile are still available for $20 with half of the proceeds going back to the school. He added that the TEF Annual Dinner would be held on May 10, 2008 at a cost of $75 per ticket prior to May 1, 2008, and $125 per ticket thereafter.
Mr. Furey announced that the Torrance Education Foundation and the Rotary Club of Torrance will sponsor “Downtown Sounds” on June 8, 2008, hosted by Chef Michael Shafer of the Depot. He added that proceeds would be donated to the music programs in the Torrance schools.
Dr. Griffith reported that both he and Dr. Koga attended the Educational Council of Torrance Luncheon on April 14, 2008 and was impressed by the jazz performance by students from Madrona Middle School.
Dr. Griffith invited everyone to attend the 36th Annual Bunka-Sai, Japanese Cultural Festival on April 26-27, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ken Miller Recreation Center.
Dr. Griffith also noted that he would be attending the Torrance Council of PTA’s May Brunch on May 7, 2008, 9:00 a.m. at South High School.
Dr. Griffith reported that June 3, 2008 would be the General Municipal Election for the City Council of Torrance. He highlighted the important dates and locations for the Candidate’s Forum, as follows:
