CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Mr. Furey at 3:30 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Furey.
PUBLIC HEARING - PERSONNEL COMMISSION BUDGET-2008-2009
Mr. Furey opened the Public Hearing – 2008-2009 Personnel Commission Budget.
Hearing no comments, Mr. Furey requested a motion to close the hearing.
Dr. Griffith moved, seconded by Dr. Klonecky that the Public Hearing – 2008-2009 Personnel Commission Budget be closed. Motion carried 3/0.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES –Regular Meeting of March 18, 2008
Dr. Klonecky moved, seconded by Dr. Griffith, that the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of March 18, 2008 be approved. Motion carried 3/0.
APPROVAL OF 2008-2009 PERSONNEL COMMISSION BUDGET
Dr. Griffith moved, second by Dr. Klonecky, that the 2008-2009 Personnel Commission Budget be approved. Motion carried 3/0.
APPROVAL OF PERSONNEL COMMISSION OFFICE RAMP & SKIRTING REPAIR- GEURIN’S MOBILE HOME SERVICE, CA CONTRACTOR’S LICENSE 783466
Dr. Klonecky moved, seconded by Dr. Griffith, that the Personnel Commission Office Ramp & Skirting Repair for Geurin’s Mobile Home Service, CA Contractor’s License 783466 be approved. Motion carried 3/0.

COMMENTS FROM STAFF
Dr. Koga noted that Mr. Yepez and Ms. Kwan attended the HR Star Conference (no registration cost) at the Los Angeles Convention Center on March 26, 2008.
Mr. Yepez noted the four different sessions he attended which included: (1) Recruiting Excellence; (2) Pre-Employment Screening; (3) Strategies for Implementing a Successful Recognition Program; (4) When California and Federal Leave Laws Collide.
Ms. Kwan reported on the session of Appreciative Inquiry, which focuses on approaching workplace issues as an asset, rather than a problem.
COMMENTS FROM PERSONNEL COMMISSIONERS
Mr. Furey presented to Dr. Griffith and Ms. Kwan Merit Academy Certificates, December 2007.
Dr. Koga noted that they were both graduates of the California School Personnel Commissioners Association Merit Academy which was a comprehensive 40-hour training consisting of five 8-hour Saturdays.
Mr. Furey commended them on their dedication to the Merit System.
Dr. Griffith reported that from forty (40) competitors, six (6) winners and two (2) honorable mentions were selected at the Torrance Symphony’s Annual Young Artists Concerto Competition at Torrance High School on March 29, 2008.
Dr. Griffith also announced that Torrance High School’s production of Smile the Musical will be showing from April 3-5 2008, 7:00 p.m. in the Torrance High School Auditorium.
Dr. Griffith reported that June 3, 2008 would be the General Municipal Election for the City Council of Torrance. He highlighted the important dates and locations for the Candidate’s Forum, as follows:
