TUSD Asks For Energy Assistants

March 28, 2008

In an effort to increase the District’s energy savings, TUSD has created an “Energy Assistant” section on its website. This section will allow community members, who are at school sites after hours for extracurricular activities or simply driving around their neighborhood, to report energy waste that may have been missed by school personnel. “TUSD has strong community involvement which is one of the reasons it is such a successful educational organization, by involving the community in our energy management program is another way for us to receive input from our neighbors,” comments TUSD Superintendent Dr. George Mannon.

In the past five months TUSD has saved over $225,000 in utility costs as a part of its Energy Management Program. TUSD is committed to find ways to be more energy efficient and cut costs at the same time. District Energy Manager, Jack Evans, works with maintenance staff, school principals and school site staff and teachers to regularly identify energy saving sources. School sites are becoming more aware of little things like turning off the lights every time the leave their classrooms, shutting off computer monitors, and monitoring classroom temperatures. “We’re making a big difference here and I’m very grateful to all those individuals that continually contributed to the success of the program,” comments Jack.
