Subsidized Preschool Programs in Torrance Unified School District

Since 1971, Torrance Unified School District has provided early childhood services, beginning at the Torrance Children's Center located near Magruder Middle School. In 1999, the inception of Torrance Tykes Preschool achieved our goal of providing a full spectrum of high quality, subsidized preschool and childcare services to income qualified families residing in Torrance and surrounding communities. All of our preschool and childcare programs are staffed with employees who carry ECE permits and a minimum of 2 years experience in early childhood education. You are invited to apply for enrollment in one of the following early childhood programs offered by the Torrance Unified School District:



Torrance Tykes State Preschool

State-funded preschool is offered free of charge to income qualified families (call our office for more information on income qualification). Half day preschool classes are in session 3 hours per day, 5 days per week at the following campuses:

Program Eligibility for State Preschool

Children participating in Torrance Tykes Preschool programs must turn 3 years old before December 2nd of the current school year and be fully toilet trained. 4-year-old students will be placed first.

Interested families should gather the following documents before applying:
- Child's birth certificate
- Child's immunization record
- Two (2) utility bills as proof of California residence
- Verification of one month of income from all adults in the family (paystubs, CALWORKS, EDD, Child Support, Social Security, OR current tax return)
