PCASC Spring Conference-April 25-26, 2008-Hilton Irvine/Orange County Airport
COMMENTS FROM STAFF
In reference to the Personnel Commissioners Association of Southern California Annual Conference on April 25-26, 2008 at the Hilton Irvine/Orange County Airport, Dr. Koga noted that the Superintendent had recently sent an email to all administrators freezing all conference attendance and that past practice had been that the Personnel Commission generally followed protocol in freezing conference spending.
The Personnel Commissioners agreed that they would also not be attending the upcoming PCASC Conference.
Dr. Koga noted that the Reclassification Period would continue through February 15, 2008. She further added that classified employees were being asked to refrain from submitting a request for reclassification during these dire budgetary times. Dr. Koga reported that Dr. Mannon indicated that if reclassification monies were utilized this year, there would have to be more employees laid off to meet the cost of such reclassifications.
Dr. Koga conveyed that most permanent placements were being filled with substitutes until the end of this school year. She added that eligibility lists would continue to be in force for the one-year period thereby making permanent placements readily available when needed.
COMMENTS FROM PERSONNEL COMMISSIONERS
Dr. Griffith reported that the PTA Founder’s Day/Honorary Service Luncheon would take place on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Hull. He added that both he and Dr. Koga attended ECT on Monday, February 5, 2008 in which Lynn Middle School was the featured school.
Mr. Furey announced that the annual Torrance Education Foundation Dinner would be on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Torrance Marriott. He added that raffle tickets were also available at a cost of $20 each for a chance to win a new Toyota Prius.
