City of Torrance Sewer Replacement Construction Project on Plaza del Amo

Between 01/02/08 - 04/30/08

January 03, 2008

Beginning January 2, 2008, a project contracted by the City of Torrance to replace an old sewer main in the south bound lane of Plaza del Amo will commence.

The project begins at the intersection of Border Avenue and Plaza del Amo progressing west through the Plaza del Amo and Arlington intersection, continuing north on Plaza del Amo and ending at the Torrance High School Student parking lot.

It is estimated to take 3-4 months, ending in April 2008. During construction the north bound lane on Plaza del Amo will remain open. The south bound will remain open until construction reaches the Arlington intersection, estimated 1-1/2 to 2 months.

The south bound lane will then be closed from Arlington on Plaza del Amo to the north entrance leading into the condominium complex. South bound traffic will be directed along the condominium frontage road to the Arlington intersection. Through traffic will be possible but anticipated to be congested, with minor interruptions during the day due to construction.

The Contractor has agreed to limit work during school drop off and pickup times. The City of Torrance will discourage unnecessary through traffic. The Contractor is responsible for barriers, traffic and pedestrian control and safety.

When the project reaches the north entrance to the condominium complex the contractor will stop and complete the remaining work during spring break to limit disruptions to school operations. The final bypass will briefly close the south bound lane during this phase in April during the spring recess (April 7-11).

The Contractor will use the vacant lot next to the student parking lot as a construction staging area, leased to the Contractor by the District.
