West High School Coach

As most of you may already be aware, a West HS walk-on coach has been the subject of a police investigation, and some information has been reported publicly through the local newspapers and television stations. Since the investigation is nearing its conclusion, I wanted to share some information with each of you.
An alleged incident involving this coach was reported to the administration, who took immediate action by reporting this information to the authorities. The Torrance Police Department began their investigation immediately with full cooperation from both West HS and TUSD personnel. The TUSD Board of Education responded promptly by terminating the coach’s employment effective Monday, December 10, 2007.
As you know, both West HS and TUSD take student safety very seriously, and we fully cooperated with the Torrance Police Department in their investigation. The coach involved in this matter was hired 9 years ago, and the proper background checks were completed at that time. He has since been an effective coach in multiple sports at West HS, and these unfortunate circumstances have taken us, and many of you by surprise.
Please be advised that the administration and counselors have been and will continue to be available to those who are emotionally affected by this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you find yourself struggling with emotions and the impact of this situation.
