Mark Steffen
Mark Steffen was elected to the Board in November of 2005. He graduated from the University of Redlands with a Bachelor's Degree in History. He received his teaching credential from Cal. State Los Angeles in 1982. He began his teaching career in the Hawthorne School District that same year. Mr. Steffen has had a varied career at Hawthorne. A teacher of middle school students for 17 years, the Director of the district Maintenance Dept. for six years, and his present position as a fourth grade teacher have given Mark a wide range of experiences to help prepare him for his position on the school board. Also, his years of involvement with the teachers association and his experience in administration have helped understand the need for both sides of the educational community to work together to ensure that students have the best opportunities that we can provide.
