The meeting was called to order by Dr. Griffith at 3:30 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES –Regular Meeting of June 19, 2007
Dr. Klonecky moved, seconded by Mr. Furey, that the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 19, 2007. Motion carried 3/0.
APPROVAL OF ELIGIBILITY LIST- Technology Support Specialist
Dr. Klonecky moved, seconded by Mr. Furey, that the Eligibility List – Technology Support Specialist be approved. Motion carried 3/0.
APPROVAL OF NEW JOB DESCRIPTION – Mechanic/Parts Technician
Dr. Klonecky moved, seconded by Mr. Furey, that the new job description of Mechanic/Parts Technician be approved. Motion carried 3/0.
APPROVAL OF 2007-2008 CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE RECRUITMENT PLAN
Dr. Klonecky moved, seconded by Mr. Furey, that 2007-2008 Classified Employee Recruitment Plan be approved. Motion carried 3/0.

COMMENTS FROM STAFF
Mr. Tietze reported on two training sessions attended by staff. He described the first session, entitled “Job Analysis-Job Description Tools,” as a blend of information on conducting a job analysis and instructions for using a new online job description creation program. He noted the second session, entitled “Customer Surveys from the Respondent Point of View,” recommended ways of developing more effective surveys based upon the point of view of the respondent.
Dr. Koga noted that the 2006-2007 Annual Report and will be on the Personnel Commission Agenda on August 14, 2007 for approval.
COMMENTS FROM PERSONNEL COMMISSIONERS
Dr. Griffith expressed appreciation for the Personnel Commission’s participation in local training events to promote staff development and maintain public visibility of the Torrance School District. He solicited comments from the Personnel Commission staff regarding their thoughts on how the TUSD Personnel Commission compares with other agencies. Ms. Kwan appreciated the positive supportive and productive relationship between the TUSD Personnel Commissioners and staff. Mr. Tietze complimented the efficient operation and organization of the TUSD Personnel Commission office. Dr. Koga noted appreciation for the positive feedback about the Personnel Commission she consistently receives from classified employees.
Dr. Griffith announced his involvement in two upcoming events – South Bay Conservatory’s “Seussical the Musical” from July 20-22, 2007 at the Redondo Union High School Auditorium and the Torrance Symphony Pops Orchestra concert on Sunday, August 26, 2007, 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Park.
Mr. Furey announced three city events: (1) The Torrance Historical Society is sponsoring the “Rock Around the Block” event on July 19, 2007, 5:00 p.m. in celebration of the City of Torrance All-American City Award received in the 1950’s; (2) The City of Torrance Movie Night at McMaster Park on July 21, 2007, 8:00 p.m.; and (3) The Country-Western themed “Concert in the Park” at McMaster Park on July 29, 2007, 2:00 p.m.
COMMENTS FROM THOSE IN ATTENDANCE
Ms. Judy Vega, SEIU Local 99 Labor Representative, announced that the union is offering free First Aid and CPR (Red Cross Certified) training sessions for members from July 16-18, 2007. She further noted that the union is currently working with the District through the Joint Labor/Management Committee to organize more staff development training for Local 99 members.
Ms. Teri Furey, CSEA, Chapter 845 First Vice-President, suggested placing job bulletins in the registration packets distributed to students at the beginning of the school year in order to notify parents of current job openings.
